Why Is My Website Not Showing on Google? A Plain-English Fix
Website not showing on Google? Check if it's not indexed or just not ranking, what each Search Console status means, and what to fix first. For Singapore SMEs.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my website not showing on Google at all?
Either Google has not indexed it yet, or something is telling Google to leave it out. The most common causes are a brand-new site with no links pointing to it, a leftover 'noindex' setting from the build stage, or pages Google judged too thin or too similar to index. Check the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console to see which one applies.
What does 'Discovered – currently not indexed' mean?
Google's own help centre says the page was found but not crawled yet, typically because crawling it was expected to overload the site, so Google rescheduled the crawl. On small business sites it usually means Google does not yet see enough reason to prioritise the page. Stronger internal links, a submitted sitemap and genuine links from other sites help.
What does 'Crawled – currently not indexed' mean?
Google visited the page but decided not to add it to the index for now. Google says it may or may not be indexed in the future and there is no need to resubmit it. In practice, the fix is usually making the page more useful and distinct, not pressing the Request indexing button again.
How long does it take for a new website to show up on Google?
Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, and that some changes take effect in hours while others take several months. A new Singapore business site with no links pointing to it often sits at the slower end. Indexing is also only step one; ranking for competitive searches usually takes much longer.
My website shows up when I search my business name but not for my services. Why?
That means the site is indexed but not ranking. Google is choosing other pages as more relevant or more trusted for those searches. The fix is clearer service pages, real local detail, internal links and earning genuine mentions and links from other sites, not more technical tweaks.
Can I pay Google to index my website faster?
No. There is no paid route into Google's organic index, and Google states it does not guarantee it will crawl, index or serve any page. Google Ads can put you on the results page immediately, but that is advertising and stops when you stop paying.
