The Census of Population 2020 counted 262,730 residents in the Jurong West planning area, the second-largest resident population of any planning area after Bedok. About 91.5% of them lived in HDB flats, and 38% lived in 5-room or executive flats, well above the national share of 26%.
Is Jurong Lake District part of Jurong West?
Mostly no. On URA's planning area boundaries, Jurong Lake Gardens, Chinese Garden MRT and Jurong East MRT all fall inside the Jurong East planning area. Lakeside MRT station is on the Jurong West side, so Jurong West businesses near Lakeside and Taman Jurong sit right next to the district and will feel its growth.
When will the Jurong Region Line open in Jurong West?
LTA says Stage 1, which links Choa Chu Kang to Boon Lay and to the Gek Poh and Tawas area along Jurong West Street 75, will open around mid-2028 after a six-month delay announced in March 2026. Stage 3, which extends the line into NTU and towards Jurong Pier, is planned for 2029.
Is NTU in Jurong West?
Not on URA's boundaries. Nanyang Technological University sits in the neighbouring Western Water Catchment planning area, just beyond Jurong West's western edge. For a business near Pioneer MRT or Jurong West Streets 61 to 64, students and staff are a realistic nearby audience, but they are not Jurong West residents in the census figures.
Which hawker centres are in Jurong West?
NEA's list of hawker centres dated 23 July 2026 includes four in Jurong West: Taman Jurong Market and Food Centre on Yung Sheng Road, Blks 221A/B Boon Lay Place, Blk 505 Jurong West Street 52, and Jurong West Hawker Centre at 50 Jurong West Street 61. Each is a daily footfall anchor for the blocks around it.
