Google Business Profile Singapore: Setup and Ranking Guide
Set up and optimise a Google Business Profile in Singapore: storefront vs service-area, verification, categories, holiday hours, reviews and Maps ranking.
Frequently asked questions
How do I rank higher on Google Maps in Singapore?
Google says local results are ranked on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot pay for a better organic Maps ranking. You improve it by choosing the most accurate primary category, completing every field, keeping hours correct, earning genuine reviews steadily and having a website that backs up what your profile says.
Should a home-based HDB business show its address on Google Business Profile?
Usually not. Google's guidelines say a service-area business that does not serve customers at its address should hide it, and HDB's home-based business rules also bar signage and extra foot traffic at the flat. If customers never come to your home, set up as a service-area business, list the areas you cover and leave the address hidden.
Can I use a virtual office address for my Google Business Profile in Singapore?
No. Google's guidelines state that a rented mailing address where the business does not actually operate, which Google calls a virtual office, is not eligible for a Business Profile. Using one is a common cause of suspension. A co-working space only qualifies if it has your signage, receives customers and is staffed by your team during business hours.
Is it legal to buy Google reviews or post fake ones in Singapore?
It breaks Google's policies and can also breach Singapore consumer law. The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore has stated that posting fake customer reviews in a consumer transaction is an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, and it has taken action against local businesses for doing so. Google also bans offering discounts or freebies in exchange for reviews.
Does Google Business Profile still have chat and Q&A?
Google's built-in chat ended on 31 July 2024. Google now lets eligible verified profiles add a WhatsApp or text-message contact option, though it says this is only available in select regions. The classic customer Q&A section has also been wound down since late 2025, so the practical move is to put common answers into your description, services and website.
